When Qualicum Elementary School closed, the community brought it back to life. That investment deserves to be protected, not abandoned.

More Than a Building

Qualicum Commons is a community asset generating revenue, serving families, and creating jobs. Walking away costs more than staying.

92 Students at a Specialized School

A non-profit school for autistic and neurodivergent learners with BC-certified teachers, small classes, and integrated therapy. These students have nowhere else to go.

A Childcare Desert Gets Worse

The Oceanside region already has a severe childcare shortage. Losing 72 licensed spaces means families lose work and kids lose stability. There is nowhere else for them.

78 People's Livelihoods at Risk

Teachers, instructors, child care workers, occupational therapists, and counsellors. These aren't abstract numbers. They are your neighbours and colleagues.

A Sustainable Plan, Not a Blank Cheque

The community is not asking for a handout. Tenant revenue, grants, and partnerships can make this work. The Town does not have to do it alone, but it does need to come to the table.

The Town of Qualicum Beach Needs to Come to the Table

We're asking the Town to sit down with the community and develop a sustainable plan for Qualicum Commons. A building generating revenue, serving over 1,000 people a week, and employing 78 people is not a liability. It's a community asset worth investing in.

From parents to volunteers to longtime residents.

My daughter has been in arts programs here since she was four. It's where she found her confidence and her best friends. We can't lose this.

Without the childcare spaces here, I would have had to leave my job. There is literally nowhere else in Qualicum Beach with room.

James T.
Working parent, Qualicum Beach

The school was closed and deteriorating. The community brought it back to life. That work should be honoured, not thrown away.
